After 25 years at the daily newspaper Le Monde, which he ran from 2007 to February 2011, Mr Fottorino co-founded the weekly Le 1, which was launched in April 2014.

Its first issue was published on 9 April 2014. An innovative publication in form – a single folded sheet – as well as in content: Le 1 deals with just one major current theme through the eyes of writers, researchers, experts and artists. It leaves no room for advertising and is exclusively intended to be a “readers’ newspaper”.

In November 2015, Le 1 licensed its concept to the Italian daily newspaper La Stampa. In March 2017, together with François Busnel, Mr Fottorino launched the quarterly magazine America, which aims to give several glimpses of the United States during Donald Trump’s presidency.

Since January 2019, he has been a guest on the daily programme C dans l’air, on the public channel France 5, and every Wednesday at 10.30 pm, he presents the programme Ouvrez le 1 alongside Émilie Tran Nguyen. Broadcast on France Info, the programme is produced in partnership with the weekly newspaper Le 1, of which Fottorino is the co-founder.
