At the International French School (IFS), we are delighted to share the stories that shape our vibrant, multilingual community. Today, we feature the Yoshii family and their journey with us in Singapore.
Originally from Japan, Takuya and Naomi Yoshii have lived in Singapore for seven years with their children, Ceon and Theo. Although Ceon was already fluent in English and proficient in Mandarin, her parents sought an education combining top-tier academics with rich cultural depth.
Finding Shared Values
For the Yoshii’s, choosing IFS was about more than learning a new language – it was about connecting with a culture they deeply admire.

Ceon’s FLSCO teacher, Stéphanie GAUTHIER, helped her view learning French as an encouraging adventure, guiding her step-by-step as she settled into the classroom.
“Ceon was a fantastic student—always dynamic, smiling, and full of an amazing intellectual curiosity,” recalls Mme GAUTHIER. “She also had a wonderful attention to detail and loved making sure that everything was just right.“
That eye for detail shone through early in her French studies. “One of my favourite examples was when we were learning about food and French desserts,” Mme GAUTHIER adds. “On her quiz, she didn’t simply write tarte au citron—she wrote tarte au citron meringuée. And, of course, she was absolutely right: it is much better with the meringue on top! Her enthusiasm, curiosity, and personality made her a real pleasure to teach, and I will remember her very fondly.“
Recognising the Whole Child
At IFS, our mission goes beyond academic excellence; we strive to cultivate well-rounded global citizens and celebrate what makes each student unique.
A memorable moment for the family occurred at Ceon’s CM2 graduation, where IFS recognised her squash achievements on stage in front of her peers. Alongside her studies, Ceon had dedicated herself to squash, winning the All Japan Junior Championships (Girls Under 11) – a proud moment for our whole school community.
“Seeing her surprised on stage with her trophy and medal was a very special moment for our family,” shared Takuya and Naomi. “Experiences like this give a child enormous confidence and motivation.“
We are honoured to have the Yoshii family in our community and look forward to supporting them through every step of their journey.
