TAPESTRY – Weaving the Voices of IFS

“Tapestry” is a word we’ve heard, but perhaps never fully understood.
Some describe it as a promise of change, a transformation from what was to what will be.

At IFS, Tapestry is a student-led journal that brings together a vibrant mix of poetry, stories, essays, reviews, artwork, and photography. Driven by a dedicated editorial and design team of 4ème and 1ère students, and featuring contributions from across the secondary school (6ème to 1ère), the journal provides a space for authentic expression and celebrates the many voices that make up our school community.

The project is guided by Mr Muthiah, Mr Booth, and Ms Grisanzio.

The name Tapestry was inspired by Arachne, the mythological weaver who symbolizes rebirth and constancy – transforming yet staying true to her nature as a weaver.
Contributors describe it in three words: Creative, Depth, Expression. It is the epitome of bringing ideas into reality and a medium for self-expression.

To understand what Tapestry is all about, let’s do a quick recap of the first issue from June 2025, which featured two sections:

New Beginnings and General Contributions, showcasing student creativity, insight, and diverse perspectives.

“You know nothing about this endeavor which has just begun.”
“Every new beginning is marked by the unknown.”

LITERATURE

Life Constructs – A metaphorical link between personal growth and construction: both represent growth in their own way, whether big or small.

A Path Towards Global Destruction A call for climate action: “We can choose who we want to be.” The Earth has long been taken for granted, but it’s not too late to fight for change, for ourselves and for all living beings.

POETRY

Change – The only constant: uncomfortable yet necessary.

The Synonyms of Ending and Beginning – A reflection on good and bad as fleeting equals, like clouds crossing a bright sky.

A Walk on the Huashan Mountain – A scenic walk paired with a fortunate feline encounter.

History of Time – “Time is free, but it’s priceless.”                                                            Time existed before names, before memory, before us. Today, we risk wasting it by dwelling on the past or worrying about the future. It’s “time” to stay in the present.

  • Literary pieces celebrating the beauty of nature, the serenity of forests, and Komorebi – the Japanese term for sunlight filtering through the trees

WHAT’S NEXT?

The next issue of Tapestry will be published in December 2025, with the theme “Mysteries of the Night.”
If the first issue is any indication, the journal will continue to be innovative, thought-provoking, and inspiring.

We hope you enjoy reading it, feel inspired, or simply find something that makes you smile.
