IFS celebrates one of the most important Mexican traditions
“Dia de los muertos” is a very important event in Mexico, more important than Christmas. Observed for two days, the 1st and 2nd of November at the same time as the Christian festival of All Saints Day in France. During the Day of the Dead, Mexicans meet with their families to celebrate their departed family. They build altars (altares) that they will then exhibit at home or in various public places. The construction of the altar is done with due respect to traditions; each element has a special symbolism and is an invitation to celebrate and to remember the deceased.
Thanks to the Hispanic students of the Lower secondary and the 2nde LV3, IFS has created an altar following the pure Mexican tradition. 5ème students have made “calaveras” skulls. 4ème students made mini-altars, 3ème made the alebrijes or brightly coloured Mexican folk art sculptures of fantastical (fantasy/mythical) creatures. An ongoing contest chooses the most original, most beautiful or surprising creation.
The altar is on display at the entrance of Ang Mo Kio 3000 in front of the guards until 15th November.
¡Feliz día de los muertos en el IFS!
«El Día de los Muertos» es un acontecimiento muy importante en México, aún más que Navidad.
La fiesta se celebra durante dos días, el primero y dos de noviembre como la fiesta de la Toussaint en Francia. Durante estas celebraciones, los mexicanos se reúnen con sus familias para recordar a sus difuntos. Construyen altares, también llamados ofrendas, que exponen en sus casas o en lugares públicos. Cada Ofrenda sigue la tradición y reproduce símbolos particulares. Todas son una invitación a festejar a recordar a los difuntos con alegría y ternura.
Para hacer la Ofrenda del IFS, alumnos de español del colegio fabricaron varios elementos típicos: los muchachos de cinquième crearon calaveras, los de quatrième altares miniatura y los troisième, alebrijes (animales fantásticos que acompañan muchas celebraciones mexicanas). Un concurso se está llevando a cabo para elegir les creaciones más originales, más hermosas o más sorprendentes.
Durante la semana del 11 al 15 de noviembre, usted puede visitar la Ofrenda en la entrada de la secundaria. Venga a vernos, ¡vale la pena!
